CRIMINAL APPELLATE LAW

Criminal appellate law is a branch of law focused on appeals filed after criminal convictions. I have been working in this field for more than 31 years. I have handled hundreds of appeals in the state of Texas, involving both state and federal convictions.

About Appeals

An appeal is a measure filed after a criminal conviction in hopes of overturning the court’s decision. Appeals may be either “as of right” or “discretionary” in nature. “As of right” appeals must be heard by the court, while discretionary appeals are not automatically heard. Discretionary appeals will be heard only if the court chooses to consider them.

Your initial appeal will usually be an “as of right” appeal. Future appeals are more likely to be discretionary appeals.

My Criminal Appellate Services

I handle all types of criminal appellate matters, including direct appeals and collateral appeals. I have taken appeals to both state and federal courts with a strong record of success. Because of the highly specialized nature of my practice, I am very selective about the cases I accept.
